Activated Carbon Systems

Activated Carbon

Activated Carbon is a ubiquitous material used in a wide variety of applications. Useful to purify both liquid and gas streams, it is used in industries as diverse as food processing, wine making, pollution control, and gold mining. As widely used as it is, activated carbon is often misunderstood and misused. There is much science and a little bit of art in knowing how to use carbon to the most cost efficient extent.

For example, did you know that activated carbon is made from several different materials, and that each of those materials produces different properties? Further those different properties make those different carbons better or worse in a given application. The method used to present the carbon to the stream to be purified can greatly affect the efficacy of the system as a whole. Carbon is reusable — Do you know the difference between “stripped,” “recycled” and “reactivated” carbon?

How do you decide when to use carbon and how to use it?

Salmon and Schroeder has the expertise you need to assist you in making the decisions you need to make about carbon. Maybe you have a carbon system that is that is not working as well as you expected — we can help. From straight adsorption to solvent recovery — in liquid streams and gas streams — in pollution control, in gold mining, in wine making — we have the experience you need to help you with your application.

We have served as consultants to companies that make and sell activated carbon and carbon systems. If we can help them, we can certainly help you.
